Thinking Of Buying Another Property, Main Residence, Holiday Cottage Or Buy To Let?
Watch out for changes in stamp duty payable.
The current temporary
threshold of £175,000 is being reduced to £125,000 from 1st January
2010.
This means if you are
buying under £175,000 then currently there is no stamp duty payable so you will
need to complete on your purchase before 31st December 2009.
But wait... Many
solicitors will be closed from about 22nd December for the Christmas
holiday so there is even less time to complete.
From 1st January
any purchases over £125,000 will attract Stamp Duty Land Tax at 1% so on a
purchase of £175,000 the tax will be £1,750.
